DESCRIPTION

The VIP-357 "Smart Splice"™ Keyboard Multiplexer allows two PS/2 keyboards (AT style keyboards with an adapter) to be connected to one PC. An adapter the VIP-301-5F6M (maybe purchased seperately) is needed for connecting an AT style keyboard to the "Smart Splice". The Multiplexer also allows keyboard plug-in/plug-out at any time, before the PC is powered up or after. The VIP-357 is powered from the PC.

PREPARE FOR OPERATION

There are two steps to prepare the Multiplexer for operation.

CONNECTION TO THE PC SHOULD ONLY BE MADE WITH POWER OFF TO THE PC!!

1. Connect the PC:

Use the six pin Mini-DIN male-male PC keyboard extension cable supplied with the Multiplexer to connect the Multiplexer to the PC's keyboard connector port. This cable should be connected from the Multiplexer's connector marked "TO PC" to the PC. The Multiplexer is powered from the PC via this cable. An adapter the VIP-301-5M6F (maybe purchased seperately) will be needed to connect to an AT style PC. The Multiplexer should be connected to the PC only while the PC is powered down.

2. Connect the Keyboard(s):

Use the keyboard's captive cable to connect the keyboard(s) to the female 6 DIN connectors of the Multiplexer marked "KBD 1 IN" or "KBD 2 IN". The keyboard(s) will be powered from the PC via the "Multiplexer" and via the keyboard cable. The keyboard(s) can be connected to either of the two connectors. There is no functional difference between these connectors. An adapter the VIP-301-5F6M (maybe purchased seperately) is needed if an AT style keyboard is used.

A few seconds should elapse from keyboard plug-in to keyboard operation to allow the Multiplexer to recognize the presence of the keyboard and to set it up properly.
