RS-232 technology allows use of modems and fiber connection links

Description:

Vetra Keyboard / Mouse Extenders allow you to locate a keyboard and mouse remotely from the PC. All models consist of a Receiver unit located at the PC, and a Transmitter unit located at the remote site for the keyboard and mouse. Distance between Receiver unit and the Transmitter unit can be almost any length, since the RS-232 connection between them can be tailored for the required distance, from simple cables to low loss cable, short haul modems, or fiber. The RS-232 connection between the Transmitter and Receiver for all models can be supplied by the user or purchased from Vetra in standard lengths from 50 to 200 feet (see Accessories DB9 Extension Cables). Custom length cables are also available from Vetra at an additional charge. All models utilize Vetra's advanced keyboard emulation technology which provides error free boot up to the connected PC, supports all popular keyboards and mice, and provides transparent operation with all IBM compatible PC's, PC operating systems, and applications.

Operation:

The remote keyboard and mouse are connected to the Transmitter unit. The Transmitter unit is powered by a +5 Vdc power supply (VIP-210 supplied with system), which also powers the remote keyboard and mouse. The Transmitter unit takes the keyboard and / or mouse input, converts it RS-232 data, multiplexes it via proprietary protocol and sends it on a single cable pair to the Receiver unit located at the target PC. The Receiver unit is connected local to the PC's keyboard and mouse ports and is powered from the PC. The Receiver unit accepts the serial data from the Transmitter unit, de-multiplexes it, converts it back into PS/2 keyboard and mouse data and delivers it to their respective ports on the PC. The Transmitter unit can be powered up or down at any time without affecting the operation of the system. The keyboard and / or mouse may be disconnected and re-connected (hot-plugged), or exchanged at any time without having to power down Transmitter unit or the connected PC. This feature is useful if a connected device fails during a critical application. For more information on this product or our complete line of KVM solutions, please contact us at sales@vetra.com
