INTRODUCTION

There are two models in the USB-845 MegaCastPlus™ series:

The USB-845-BC USB Keyboard or USB Mouse Broadcaster-Multicaster connects either one USB keyboard or one USB mouse to up to five PC's simultaneously.

The USB-845-KM-BC connects both a keyboard and a mouse to up to five PC's simultaneously.

In both units, the keyboard and/or mouse are routed simultaneously to all connected PC's. Both models allow one hub between the input devices and the Broadcaster-Multicaster. The hub may be external or built into the keyboard, but only one device may be connected to the hub for the USB-845-BC and two devices for the USB-845-KM-BC.

Both models feature user-controlled Inversion Multicasting, where PC #1 is excluded from multicasting. Multicasting remains active for PC's 2 - 5.

Both keyboard/mouse Broadcaster-Multicaster models come with the VIP-210 power supply.

Note: The "MegaCastPlus" does not come with USB connection cables. One cable per PC is needed for the USB-845-BC, and two cables per PC are needed for the USB-845-KM-BC. They may be ordered from Vetra separately.

INSTALLATION

Before connecting PC's to the Broadcaster-Multicaster, make sure the Broadcaster-Multicaster is powered by its Power Supply! The PC's may be powered or not when you connect them to the Broadcaster-Multicaster. Keyboard and/or mouse may be connected to the Broadcaster-Multicaster at any time. Do not power down the Broadcaster-Multicaster while any PC is connected to the Broadcaster!

There are three main steps to make the Broadcaster-Multicaster ready for use:

1. Power Up:

First, connect the power supply included with the Broadcaster-Multicaster to the Power Jack, marked "+5VDC IN", on the back panel of the Broadcaster. Note that the front panel "PWR ON" indicator on the Broadcaster is on. When powering up or connecting the PC's, note that the appropriate "PC STATUS" indicator on the front panel comes on.

2. Connect PC's to Broadcaster-Multicaster unit:

For the USB-845-BC:
Connect any available USB input on the PC's to the Broadcaster-Multicaster using USB A-B cables. Connect PC #1's USB port to the back panel connector of the Broadcaster-Multicaster marked "PC1". Connect USB ports of PC's #2 - #5 to the back panel connectors marked "PC2" - "PC5". The Broadcaster-Multicaster will operate with less than all five PC's connected.

For the USB-845-KM-BC: Connect any available USB inputs on the PC's to the Broadcaster-Multicaster using USB A-B cables. Connect PC #1's USB ports to the back panel connectors of the Broadcaster-Multicaster marked "PC1 KBD" and "PC1 MSE". Connect PC's #2 - #5 USB ports to the back panel connectors marked "PC2 KBD" and "PC2 MSE" - "PC5". The Broadcaster-Multicaster will operate with less than all five PC's connected.

3. Connect Keyboard and/or Mouse to Broadcaster-Multicaster unit:

For the USB-845-BC
, connect a USB keyboard or mouse to the Broadcaster-Multicaster at the front panel marked "DEVICE IN". Note that to select inversion multicasting, a keyboard is required. Therefore, if a mouse is used with the USB-845-BC, inversion multicasting cannot be selected.

For the USB-845-KM-BC, connect the USB keyboard to the Broadcaster-Multicaster at the front panel marked "KBD IN" and the mouse to the front panel connector marked "MSE IN".

OPERATION

Selecting Inversion Multicasting:

The Broadcaster-Multicaster powers up in multicasting mode. Keyboard and/or mouse data goes simultaneously to all PC's. To select/cancel Inversion Multicasting, hold down the Scroll Lock key, then:

  1. To select inversion, type I (the letter, not the number 1) and release both keys. PC 1 is now blocked from receiving multicasts of keyboard and/or mouse data. Inversion may be cancelled by typing Scroll-Lock O.
  2. To cancel inversion, type O and release both keys. Now all PC's receive keyboard and mouse data. Inversion may be selected again by typing Scroll-Lock I.
