Description: The VIP-382 "XtendaMux"™ KVM Splitter / Multiplexer system allows two workstations, each consisting of a keyboard, PS/2 mouse, and one or two monitors, to share access to one PC. Either one or both of the workstations may be remotely located at a distance of up to 150 feet. The VIP-382 KVM Splitter / Multiplexer provides a flexible combination of KVM extending and KVM multiplexing technologies in a single, compact, easy to install and operate system, and is available in a variety of standard configurations. All VIP-382 KVM Splitter / Multiplexer systems utilize Vetra's advanced keyboard and mouse emulation technology, which provides error free boot up and mouse driver loading to the connected PC. It is compatible with all popular keyboards and mice including Microsoft IntelliMouse, and operates transparently with all IBM compatible PCs, PC operating systems and applications. Operation: Only one workstation may access the PC at any given time. This prevents unwanted input from the other workstation as might occur from accidental keystrokes or a bump to the mouse. On non-keyswitch models, workstation selection has two modes. The default mode utilizes a 5 second time out feature that monitors both workstations for keyboard or mouse input. The first workstation to generate keyboard or mouse input "seizes" the PC and becomes the "active station". It remains "active" until no further keyboard or mouse input is detected for a period of 5 seconds, at which time it relinquishes control of the PC and the whole process starts again. The second mode provides a lock and release feature which allows the user of an "active station" to lock out (3 taps on the left Shift key) the other workstation, for uninterrupted input to the PC, and then release control (3 taps on the right Shift key) when finished so that both workstations are available once again to the PC. Keyswitch models utilize a 2 position front panel keyswitch to select the active workstation. The keyswitch can be removed in either position for security purposes. On all models, when PC control passes from one workstation to the other, the intelligence in the XtendaMux KVM Splitter / Multiplexer updates any changes to the keyboard status indicators, CAPS, SCROLL, and NUM Lock to the current "active station". The connected monitors are not switched, regardless of which workstation is active, and are on at all times. A workstations keyboard and/or mouse may be disconnected and re-connected (hot-plugged), or exchanged at any time without having to power down the connected PC. This feature is useful if a connected device fails during a critical application. Local workstations are connected directly to the VIP-382 XtendaMux KVM Splitter / Multiplexer which is powered by the connected PC's keyboard and mouse ports. For remote workstations, the keyboard and mouse are connected to a Transmitter unit (VIP-380-T supplied as part of system) and are powered by a wall mount power supply (supplied with Transmitter unit) located at the remote site. The remote workstation's keyboard and mouse data is transmitted via serial link between the the Transmitter unit (VIP-380-T) and the VIP-382 XtendaMux. Distance between the Transmitter unit (VIP-380-T) and the VIP-382 XtendaMux KVM Splitter / Multiplexer can be almost any length, since the RS-232 connection between them can be tailored for the required distance, from simple cables to low loss cable, short haul modems, fiber, etc. For applications requiring rack mounting, a 2U height rack mount tray is available (see Accessories ). Connections: PC to XtendaMux - Standard male-male 6 pin mini-DIN extension cables are used to connect the VIP-382 XtendaMux KVM Splitter / Multiplexer to the keyboard and mouse ports of the PC, and standard HDD15 male-female video cables are used to connect to the video port(s) of the PC. These are provided with the system. Transmitter units to XtendaMux - The VIP-380-T Transmitter unit(s) and the VIP-382 XtendaMux KVM Splitter / Multiplexer are connected by cables terminated in female DB-9 connectors. These may be user-supplied ( one to one wiring of pins 2, 3, 5, 7, and 8), or purchased from Vetra in standard lengths from 50 to 200 feet (see Accessories DB9 Extension Cables). Custom length cables are available from Vetra at an additional charge. Keyboard, Mouse, and Monitor to XtendaMux and Transmitter unit(s) - For local workstation connection, the captive cables that are part of the keyboard, mouse and monitor are used to connect these devices directly to the VIP-382 XtendaMux KVM Splitter / Multiplexer. Standard 6 pin mini-DIN extension cables may be used for short extensions at the local site. For remote workstation connection(s), the captive cables that are part of the keyboard and mouse are used to connect these devices to the VIP-380-T Transmitter unit(s). Remote monitor connections are made using HDD15 male-female mini-coax extension cables connected between the remote monitor and the VIP-382 XtendaMux KVM Splitter / Multiplexer. You may use your own cables, or ours (see Accessories ). Powering the XtendaMux - All 382 XtendaMux models are designed to be powered by the connected PCs. In some cases, depending on the make and model of the connected keyboards and mice, the PC's ports are unable to supply enough current to power all the devices. This can result in unreliable performance from the XtendaMux. This can be corrected by powering the XtendaMux with an external power supply (Vetra model VIP-210 see Accessories ). Specifications: Dimensions for the Transmitter unit VIP-380-T on all VIP-382 systems, are 1.5”H x 5.10”W x 5.30”L (38.1 cm x 12.95 cm 13.46 cm). Dimensions of the VIP-382 XtendaMux for models VIP-382-KM-1, VIP-382-KM-1-KS, VIP-382-KM-2, and VIP-382-KM-2-KS are 2.63 in H x 6.06 in W x 6.32 in D (6.68 cm x 15.39 cm x 16.05 cm).
